After sending Winston & Strawn a letter threatening litigation if the firm went forward with a 1L diversity scholarship earlier this month, the American Alliance for Equal Rights (AAER) sued the law firm on Monday in the Southern District of Texas.

The AAER, led by conservative legal activist Edward Blum, accused the firm’s 1L LCLD Scholars Program of being discriminatory against straight white men, due to application criteria stating that applicants must be members of “disadvantaged and/or historically underrepresented” groups in the legal profession.
