Greenberg Traurig has raided Winston & Strawn’s Chicago headquarters for a three-lawyer private wealth team, the firm announced Monday, hiring practice leader William Doyle and partners Lawrence Kern and Eric Nelson as shareholders in the firm’s Chicago office.

The hires follow a “tremendous movement” of ultra-high-net-worth individuals who control the corporations, banks, funds, real estate companies and investment firms that comprise a large part of Greenberg’s client base, executive chairman Richard Rosenbaum said in an interview. As the pandemic accelerated wealth migration across the U.S. and the world, Greenberg, with more than 125 private wealth lawyers and 43 global offices, saw rising demand for tax, estate planning, and investment planning across its footprint.
