A London partner recently told me about the time he was told not to bring in any more big deals.

He was working for a law firm headquartered in the U.K. city of Bristol and had landed the biggest corporate transaction in the firm’s history. The firm shipped busloads of lawyers from Bristol to stay in a hotel in London to finish it off. The bill at the end was one of the largest in the firm’s history.
