Before the world was transformed in 2020 by the coronavirus pandemic, the global legal industry turned in another strong year in 2019.

Law firms on the Global 100—our ranking of the world’s highest-grossing firms—increased their revenue by 4.7% as a group. While this figure was several notches down from the 8.1% surge they delivered the previous year and the 6.7% figure from 2017, it still brought the collective earnings of these firms up to $119.6 billion. Put together, that exceeds the 2019 gross domestic product of Morocco, the 59th-largest economy in the world.
