The Illinois Appellate Court First District, Fourth Division, has reversed a summary judgment order in favor of Motorola Solutions in multiple negligence suits after determining questions of material fact remained whether employees who were exposed to reproductively toxic chemicals at a semiconductor manufacturing facility led to severe birth defects in their children.

In the Feb. 29 opinions, authored by Justice Elizabeth M. Rochford, the court sided with plaintiffs on their negligence and willful and wanton claims against Motorola, after alleging they were born with severe birth defects as a result of their parents’ exposure to reproductively toxic chemicals while being employed at Motorola-owned semiconductor manufacturing facilities in Arizona and Texas prior to their births.
