The federal judge overseeing 3M’s $12.5 billion drinking water deal has appointed influential mass tort settlement negotiator Joe Rice to the plaintiffs’ leadership team.

In adding Rice, U.S. District Judge Richard Gergel in South Carolina is aiming to resolve the complex multidistrict litigation over perfluoralkyl or polyfluoralkyl substances, or PFAS, in drinking water supplies contaminated by aqueous film-forming foam used by firefighters.
