New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez has reached a $17 million settlement with the e-cigarette-maker JUUL, after suing the company in state court for alleged false advertising and unfair practices violations tied to allegedly promoting e-cigarettes to underaged youths.
In addition to the financial settlement, the 45-page “Consent Judgment” document between New Mexico and JUUL Labs, Inc., as well as five JUUL executives, includes what Torrez’s office calls “comprehensive” and “expansive regulations” aimed at preventing JUUL from targeting youths when promoting its products.
