Massachusetts has joined two West Coast states in an initiative to eliminate burdensome monthly probation fees for those who may already be financially struggling, the state probation office announced in a press release last month.
Massachusetts is the third state, along with Oregon and California, to eliminate such fees. In July, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker signed the Massachusetts Probation Services’ fiscal year 2023 budget that included a provision to eliminate probations fees that ranged from $50 to $65 a month, according to the statement.
