Despite a jury awarding zero damages to an employee for her county employer’s failure to provide reasonable accommodations, a federal judge said she is still owed more than $800,000 in attorney fees and costs.

The employee, Yasmin Reyazuddin, who is blind, worked as a customer service representative for the Department of Health and Human Services in Montgomery County, Maryland. In 2009, the county consolidated its customer service representatives for all departments into a new call center, which utilized computer software that was not accessible to blind individuals, according to the judge’s opinion filed Sept. 30 in U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
