A federal judge has approved a final settlement of a class action lawsuit against Maine, which agreed to pay more than $163,000 to incarcerated workers who had their COVID-19 unemployment benefits seized without warning.
In total, state officials agreed to pay $367,228, consisting of $163,228.40 to the settlement class; $4,000 as service awards; and $200,000 for attorney fees and expenses, including the cost of the settlement administration, according to U.S. District Judge Lance E. Walker’s order filed Aug. 24 in the District of Maine.
