Colorado Fifth Judicial District Judge Mark Thompson has been removed from his position as chief judge after a felony menacing charge was filed against him over the weekend.

Thompson, 54, who presided over courts in Summit, Clear Creek, Eagle and Lake counties, was removed from the position during the pendency of a charge of felony menacing with a real or simulated weapon, according to court records. The charge was filed Oct. 16 and stems from an incident that occurred July 25.
