David Barnard is a founding partner of Blaqwell Inc. He has worked as a consultant for more than 15 years and has served numerous law firms in the United States, Canada and Europe. At Blaqwell, Barnard focuses on law firm strategy, structure and operations. He has also worked on some of the largest recent law firm merger transactions. For nearly 15 years, he managed the North American operations of Linklaters from its New York office. Barnard retired from Linklaters in 2000.
Jack Bostelman is an affiliate partner of Blaqwell. His advice to leaders of top firms includes strategy, practice group management and productivity improvement, including knowledge management and legal project management. Bostelman is chair of the Productivity and Knowledge Strategy Committee of the American Bar Association's law practice division. Before entering law firm consulting six years ago, Bostelman practiced law in New York for over 20 years as a partner of Sullivan & Cromwell, where he was a nationally recognized transactional securities lawyer and corporate governance expert.
Mark Shapiro has been a partner with Blaqwell since 2004. Prior to joining Blaqwell, Shapiro was a director (senior partner) in McKinsey & Co.'s New York office, where he served clients in the financial services and professional services sectors. Shapiro has developed a special interest and expertise in strategy and organization for professional service firms. During his tenure at McKinsey, Shapiro was a leader in the firm's organizational effectiveness and governance practice, as well as a leader in the financial institutions practice. He also led much of McKinsey's work for professional service firms in North America, serving several clients that included five of the top 30 U.S. law firms. At Blaqwell, Shapiro focuses on law firm strategy, organization and operations.
