Fresh off expansion in South Africa earlier this month and in Sweden this summer, DLA Piper announced Tuesday the addition of 16-lawyer IP firm Dimock Stratton in Toronto.

The deal, effective Nov. 1, combines one of Canada’s top IP shops into the 3,756-lawyer Swiss verein that is DLA Piper. Dimock Stratton, founded in 1994, has been involved in one out of every five patent trials in Canada. Dimock Stratton’s co-founder, Ronald Dimock, now in his mid-60s, has handled more patent trials than any other lawyer in Canada, arguing before the Supreme Court of Canada in several of the country’s most important cases in IP law.
