Slater & Gordon, an Australian plaintiffs shop that became the world’s first publicly listed law firm in 2007, has reached a $630 million debt refinancing deal with bank lenders to avert a potential bankruptcy filing Down Under.

The agreement was announced May 2 in a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange and gives the consumer-focused firm, which saw its general counsel quit a month ago, additional time to try and turn itself around.
