With the recent criminal indictments of two anti-Planned Parenthood activists and a new U.S. Supreme Court challenge pending over Texas abortion restrictions, women’s reproductive rights are squarely in the national spotlight—and some big law firms aren’t shying away.

Among them is Morrison & Foerster, where a team led by commercial litigator J. Alexander Lawrence is co-counsel with the Center for Reproductive Rights in the Texas case before the high court, Whole Woman’s Health v. Cole. The case contests a Texas law that, among other restrictions on abortion clinics, requires doctors who provide abortions in the state to be admitted to a nearby hospital. Separately, MoFo labor and employment practice co-chair Janie Schulman helped to spearhead a unique Supreme Court amicus brief in Cole in early January. Schulman and more than 100 other female lawyers asserted in the brief that access to safe abortions had laid the groundwork for their successful legal careers.
