Bucking the trend of big-firm patent litigators jumping to found or join boutiques, the lawyers at Mavrakakis Law Group—more than half of them former Kirkland & Ellis attorneys and all originally from large firms—are opting back into The Am Law 100.

As sibling publication The Recorder reported on Thursday, the eight-lawyer IP shop is being acquired by Haynes and Boone, which is using the new additions to beef up its presence in Silicon Valley and to open a brand-new Chicago office. The move comes as large firms are scooping up more intellectual property work, according to one recent study.
