More than a decade ago, a federal judge in Rapid City permanently enjoined Alex White Plume from growing industrial hemp on his South Dakota tribal land, turning the Oglala Sioux elder into a martyr for hemp advocates.

If the newly departed top U.S. prosecutor for North Dakota gets his way, White Plume may soon return from hemp icon to hemp farmer.
