From longtime Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld litigator John Dowd to former Vinson & Elkins managing partner Joseph Dilg, the start of 2015 has led many lions of the bar into retirement.

Some, like Dilg, are leaving Am Law 100 life early to try their hand on the business side, while others, such as Baker Botts partner Robert Jordan in Dallas, a former head of the firm’s Middle East practice and the U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, are preparing for book tours. Latham & Watkins put together a tribute video to honor its longtime leader Robert Dell, who spoke with The Am Law Daily late last month about his 20 years at the helm, as he retired at 61.
