As Boston-based legal giants Bingham McCutchen and Edwards Wildman Palmer move toward potential merger votes with separate suitors, both firms are preparing to make cuts to their ranks.

Edwards Wildman, which in September unveiled plans to merge with Locke Lord, recently replaced the head of its struggling London office as it moves to terminate a small number of employees in the city, as first reported earlier this week by U.K. publication The Lawyer. Edwards Wildman confirmed the looming redundancies in a statement to The Am Law Daily.
