It was only two years ago when The American Lawyer reported on the Magic Circle’s difficulties in cracking the lucrative New York market for high-end legal services.

But last year London-based legal giant Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer made a concerted push to expand its U.S. offering in the Big Apple with several notable hires from Am Law 100 firms. This week Freshfields, a firm focused on keeping pace with the global elite, sought to continue that effort by scooping up Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom banking counsel DAVID ALMROTH as a partner in its leveraged finance group in New York.
