Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and Kirkland & Ellis are going toe-to-toe for some big name hires for the holidays.

The Am Law Daily reported last week on Kirkland’s poaching of Winston & Strawn litigation chair JAMES HURST in Chicago, where he’ll become a member of his new firm’s 15-partner executive committee on Dec. 15. Hurst will also be well compensated for making the move, earning up to $9 million a year, according to Reuters Legal, which cited two anonymous sources familiar with the four-year deal.
