As Cuba’s borders slowly open up to American investment, a cadre of U.S. lawyers is hoping to make new inroads related to pastimes beloved by both countries: baseball and booze.

For decades Cuban baseball players have risked arrest and even their lives to play professionally in the United States. Now, as The New York Times reported over the weekend, Major League Baseball has begun talks with officials in both countries to lay the groundwork for an era of closer ties.
