The American Council of the Blind, along with three individual plaintiffs, filed a lawsuit (PDF) this week against the U.S. General Services Administration, alleging that its website, Sam.gov, is inaccessible to them, according to Kristina Launey and Minh Vu of Seyfarth Shaw.

According to the filings, one plaintiff, Stanley Berman, a blind federal government contractor, had previously filed an administrative complaint under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, which “was enacted to eliminate barriers in information technology, open new opportunities for people with disabilities, and encourage development of technologies that will help achieve these goals.” He was advised the updated Sam.gov would not be released until approximately six months later than what had first been estimated, during which “the Sam.gov website remained largely inaccessible to blind and visually impaired individuals,” according to the court filings.
