Nearly three months after the body of former Foley & Mansfield partner and federal prosecutor Beranton Whisenant Jr. was found on a beach in Hollywood, Florida, local police have determined how he died.

Investigators concluded that Whisenant, 37, killed himself with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A statement from Hollywood police on Aug. 10 said that detectives and a medical examiner had made the determination. Whisenant’s fully clothed body was found by a passerby in the surf in May. Police subsequently pulled his body ashore, but a weapon was not recovered.
