Technology industry groups were heartened Thursday by reports that Michelle Lee will be staying on as Patent and Trademark Office director as the Trump administration gets under way.

Lee’s retention will provide continuity on initiatives such as improving patent quality, said Matthew Levy of the Computer & Communications Industry Association. “The biggest concern with the new administration was just that we didn’t know what was going to happen with patents,” he said. “Patents didn’t come up much in the campaign, which is not surprising.”
