The annual running of the laterals does not usually occur until January, but with our semi-regular moves column having been on hiatus for a few weeks, our email inbox is ready to burst with news on hires from throughout the Big Law world.

In an effort to clear some of that backlog before next year’s deluge, we begin with two new firms preparing to go live after Jan. 1, 2017. Eversheds Sutherland is the 2,300-lawyer legal giant that could be formed if partners at Sutherland Asbill & Brennan and British firm Eversheds approve a potential combination before year’s end. Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer, a union confirmed earlier this month between between two Am Law 100 firms, has got a head start on hiring in its bid to join the Global 100, The American Lawyer’s list of the world’s largest firms by head count.
