Two months after abruptly leaving K&L Gates, litigator JOHN PIERCE has landed an in-house role at a Los Angeles-area venture capital firm.

Pierce, hired by K&L Gates in January from Latham & Watkins to co-lead the firm’s 900-lawyer litigation department from his native Pittsburgh and Palo Alto, California, left a mere four months into his tenure after a partners’ meeting in May. His departure was surprising in that it came only a month after K&L Gates touted Pierce’s arrival for a feature story in The American Lawyer about its financial performance in 2015 and outlook going forward.
