Are you still licking the wounds of rejection from your first choice law school? Well, here’s the dirty little secret of how you might still sneak through the back door: Apply again—as a transfer student. As every middle schooler knows by now, U.S. News & World Report only counts the stats of the entering class in its rankings. So if you’re a transfer candidate whose LSAT scores and GPA fell short the first round, you might have another shot.
Last year a surprising number of top 20 law schools accepted large numbers of transfers, including Harvard. (More on that later.) Thanks to Jerry Organ’s postings in The Legal Whiteboard, you can find out which schools offer the best transfer opportunities. A professor at the University of St. Thomas Law School, Organ has been diligently compiling law school transfer data for several years.
