Don’t complain to Jérémie Gicquel about how cold your commute has been this winter. At press time, Gicquel, an employment law associate in Paul Hastings’ Paris office, was nearing the end of a 70-day cross-country skiing expedition that took him and his wife, Stéphanie, to the South Pole and back. Along the way, they have raised funds for the Association Petits Princes, a charity that grants the wishes of children with serious illnesses, and blogged about their adventure at acrossantarctica2014.com.

Paul Hastings cosponsored the expedition with about 40 companies. Olivier Deren, chair of the Paris office, says that he did not hesitate to allow Gicquel to go on the trip. “We are all committed to reaching excellence by doing more than one should expect,” Deren says, adding that the firm is sharing Gicquel’s story at job fairs to help recruit new associates.
