Attorneys for the corporate estate of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the King Center for Nonviolent Social Change were in court Friday morning battling over the legality of a 2007 licensing agreement allowing the center to continue using the intellectual property and possessions of the slain civil rights leader.

A lawyer for the estate asked the court to rule that the agreement, which was signed on behalf of the King Center by its then-chief operating officer and board chairman, Dexter King, is valid and has been beneficial for both parties since it was enacted.
