The New Jersey Senate on Aug. 18 unanimously approved eight new Superior Court judges for Essex County, a move that should reduce some of the pressure on the state’s busiest courthouse.

The nominations, which were also approved without opposition earlier in the day by the Senate Judiciary Committee, were part of a package that took more than four years of negotiations between the administration of Republican Gov. Chris Christie and the six senators—four Democrats and two Republicans—that make up the Essex County delegation to complete.
