Mauricio Celis, who gained notoriety in Texas after he was convicted in 2009 of falsely holding himself out as a lawyer, was expelled this spring from a law school master’s program in Illinois for failing to disclose his criminal record, among other things, when applying for the program.

He sued Northwestern University School of Law and the Instituto de Empresa (IE), a business school in Spain, over the expulsion. But an Illinois federal judge turned down Celis’ request for a court order to stop the expulsion, and Celis and the defendants have settled the legal dispute.
