Need a handbook on why your company needs a handbook? D. Albert Brannen of Fisher & Phillips has done just that. In this recent post he sets out these reasons, and others, on why it’s imperative to outline employee expectations and benefits in writing:

1. Establish Baseline Conduct

Having a handbook satisfies the employees’ needs to have information communicated to them by their employer in a professional manner, says Brannen. “It can go a long way toward making a positive first impression on a new employee,” he says. Be sure to include behavioral expectations and the consequences for failing to meet them, ways to succeed at the job and basic information, such as how to request time off from work, complain about operational matters and keep a time record.
