Waterbury Hospital and hundreds of other hotels, restaurants and medical facilities across the country that claimed they were overcharged by a major food vendor will likely share in a $297 million class action settlement.

The plaintiffs accused U.S. Foodservice Inc. of devising an unlawful scheme to inflate invoices over a seven-year period. At the time U.S. Foodservice was owned by Dutch conglomerate Royal Ahold NV, which also owns Stop & Shop and Giant supermarkets, as well as the Peapod online grocery delivery service.
