Judge M. Margaret McKeown has tackled some of the Ninth Circuit’s trickiest technology law disputes over the last couple of years. The former Perkins Coie managing partner has made law on laptop privacy, search protocols for electronic devices and closed-captioning for the Web. McKeown, known to friends as M3, is also in the midst of a two-year stint as president of the Federal Judges Association.

Q: Would you call yourself a technophile, and with all the responsibilities you have at the Ninth Circuit, is it difficult to keep pace with technological change?
