A federal jury in Camden, N.J., found telephone manufacturer Avaya Inc. attempted to set up a monopoly and tagged it with a $20 million verdict—an amount that will be trebled to $60 million as per antitrust statutes.

The verdict, after a months-long trial, is a victory for Continuant Inc. and Telecom Labs Inc. on claims that Avaya kept outside companies from servicing its phone systems in order to keep dominance of the market.
