The Pennsylvania Senate’s judiciary committee is set to hold a hearing on proposed legislation that would offer broader protection against SLAPP suits.

Tony Mannino, chief of staff to Sen. Lawrence Farnese, D-Philadelphia, said his office was notified Feb. 12 that the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing is scheduled for April 24 in Philadelphia to discuss SB 1095. The bill was introduced by Farnese in September and proposes amendments to existing statutes to expand protection for people and groups who are sued in SLAPP actions, or strategic lawsuits against public participation.
