North Carolina lawyers who remember John Edwards’ heyday as a star of the plaintiffs’ bar say they’ll be watching his adjustment to private practice following a 15-year hiatus.

Edwards, a former U.S. senator and Democratic presidential candidate, is teaming with his daughter Cate and former law partner David Kirby to launch EdwardsKirby, a plaintiffs firm with a public-interest focus. In an interview with The National Law Journal on Monday, Edwards said that unlike his previous practice, he expected the firm to have a national reach.
