DLA Piper Australia chairman and Asia Pacific head of finance is leaving for Gilbert + Tobin.

Tony Holland, who has held a number of leadership positions at DLA Piper and the former DLA Phillips Fox over the past five years, will join Gilbert + Tobin as a partner on its finance team. He starts Nov. 1.

A project finance specialist, Holland has focused on the energy and infrastructure sectors, advising on public-private partnerships as well as financing aspects of acquisitions and restructurings. His clients have included corporations, financial institutions, and governments.

Holland first joined DLA Piper in 2008 as managing partner of the firm’s Dubai office. Before that, he had been head of banking and project finance at the former Mallesons Stephen Jaques, where he was a Melbourne-based partner for over two decades.

In early 2010, he moved back to Australia to serve as the Sydney-based chief executive officer of the former DLA Phillips Fox in Sydney. He took over as Australia managing partner for DLA Piper after that firm fully integrated its Australian alliance partner the following year. He stepped down from that position last November and relocated to Melbourne, where he took on the positions of Australia chairman and regional finance practice head.

DLA Piper said it will not be appointing a new chairman for the Australian partnership and has yet to choose a replacement for Holland as head of finance for Asia Pacific.

Gilbert + Tobin has over 300 lawyers in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth.
