Linklaters Recruits Litigation Partner in Hong Kong
Linklaters has hired a litigation partner in Hong Kong.
Gavin Lewis has joined from Herbert Smith Freehills, where he represented clients in various disputes since 2008.
In 2011, Lewis acted for New Cotai Holdings Ltd. in a $2.3 billion contractual dispute with eSun Holdings Ltd., its partner in the still-incomplete Macau Studio City hotel and entertainment complex. The matter was settled when Melco Crown Entertainment Ltd. bought eSun’s 60 percent interest in the development for $260 million and paid a further $100 million to New Cotai Holdings.
Lewis served two stints at Herbert Smith Freehills. He started at the firm’s London office in 1996 before transferring to Hong Kong two years later. He became a partner in 2002 but then moved in-house to UBS AG in 2006. He returned to Herbert Smith after two years with the bank.
Linklaters has 152 lawyers, including 29 partners, in Hong Kong. The firm employs over 2,600 lawyers in 29 offices worldwide.
