Like most of the moribund global M&A market, deals in Canada fell during the first quarter of 2013. But a trio of transactions announced this week involving entities up north has yielded roles for several leading Am Law 100 and international firms.

Weil, Gotshal & Manges private equity and M&A partners Marco Compagnoni and Simon Lyell in London are leading a team from the firm advising the private equity arm of the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System on its $600 million acquisition announced Wednesday of British software maker Civica. Others counseling Toronto-based OMERS include Weil banking and finance partner Mark Donald, tax partner Joanne Etherton, employment counsel Ivor Gwilliams, and associates Chris Barron, Lewis Blakey, Richard Draper, Muzaffar Shah, and Edward Watson.
