We have written a lot about Dewey & LeBoeuf in the last few months and will continue to follow the firm’s remaining days. While there are many lessons to be learned from Dewey’s demise, one point stands out to me: Watching the end of such a prominent firm will make many other Am Law 200 partners a little more insecure about their own situation.

When there’s a slow bleed of lawyers from a global firm over many months, and ultimately the death of such a firm, it only harms the Big Law world. Yes, on an individual basis, firms can cherry-pick the dying firm’s partners, and, as we have seen, there is market share to be gained.
