Back in my callow youth, I used to think it was a badge of honor to take a class from a hard grader or work for a partner known to be difficult. I thought that was the way to prove my worth. And, even if I got lower grades or suffered for it, I assumed that I’d get some “extra” credit for taking the more challenging path.
How silly! According to research published in the Harvard Business Review blog, you are much better off laboring for someone who’s an easy grader—the boss who thinks you walk on water and will say so to the world.
