Weil, Gotshal & Manges, a firm familiar with high-profile bankruptcy engagements, took on a Chapter 7 case this week for The Pearl Theatre Co., a longtime off Broadway acting troupe based in New York City.

Commonly known as the Pearl Theatre, the company was established in 1984 in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan. The Pearl famously took an old-fashioned approach to the production of plays by assembling resident acting troupes that performed classic works by the likes of Tennessee Williams and others. It was also the launching pad for the careers of many famous thespians, including David Hyde Pierce, of “Frasier” fame.
