Two seasoned Williams & Connolly tax lawyers have found themselves at the center of a thorny situation amid their representation of energy investor and former Morgan Stanley banker Morris Zukerman, who faces criminal charges that he evaded $45 million in taxes.
In recent court filings, prosecutors have argued that Williams & Connolly partners James Bruton III and James Fuller III could be called as witnesses against Zukerman in a tax fraud case in Manhattan federal court. Since Bruton and Fuller are defending Zukerman in the matter, the government said, the situation could create a conflict of interest.
