Federal prosecutors on Thursday urged a federal judge to sentence Charles Bennett, a former corporate lawyer at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, to more than four years in prison after he entered a guilty plea last year to running a $5 million Ponzi scheme.

The fraud initially came to light in a 16-page note that Bennett left in a hotel room before he unsuccessfully tried to kill himself by jumping off a New York City pier in November 2014. Bennett, a solo practitioner since 2001, was arrested the following month.
