Amid a downturn in deal volume on the heels of a record-breaking 2015, White & Case and Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett found themselves front and center for M&A league tables for the first quarter of 2016.

The quarterly rankings, whose results often differ depending on the entity tracking the data, saw White & Case grab the top spot on tables released by Bloomberg and Mergermarket, as the firm logged work on more than $150 billion worth of deals, while Simpson Thacher & Bartlett placed first on Reuters’ version, which stated that the latter advised on transactions totaling close to $130 billion.
