Greenberg Traurig terminated its merger talks with London-based Berwin Leighton Paisner last week amid concerns about the U.K. firm’s practice mix and culture. But the leadership at Greenberg Traurig had also become disillusioned with BLP’s management, according to several people close to the discussions.

Information that BLP provided at the onset of the talks proved to be inaccurate, according to two sources at Greenberg Traurig with knowledge of the situation. “The feeling was that there was a lack of credibility with [BLP’s] management—that was a large part of why [the merger] didn’t go forward,” said one. “Things weren’t as [BLP’s management team] were claiming them to be.”
