Sharp Corp., the struggling Japanese electronics manufacturer, is on the verge of being bought by Taiwan’s Foxconn Technology Co. Ltd. in a nearly $6 billion deal.

Reuters reported Monday that the two companies were closing in on a final agreement that should be reached this week in which Taipei-based Foxconn—the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer, which gained a measure of notoriety several years ago for its work with Apple Inc.—would acquire Osaka-based Sharp for $5.8 billion.
