When Chris Christie endorsed rival Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Feb. 26, it didn’t take long for some of the New Jersey governor’s top supporters to slam him for the surprise move.

The Manchester, New Hampshire Union Leader retracted its endorsement of Christie over his backing of Trump on Monday, saying, “Boy, were we wrong.” The Christie campaign’s finance co-chair, Hewlett Packard Co. CEO Meg Whitman, called Trump “unfit to be president.” Whitman threw down the gantlet on Sunday, calling on all of Christie’s donors and supporters “to reject the governor and Donald Trump outright.”
